Just like a dream of harrowing scenes, somebody please wake me. There’s a battle going on inside you. This is the most scared I have ever been, I just want this to end. I can’t forget. I’ll wrap you up tight and keep you inside and hope the dark never finds you. I was woken up by a heart attack. I’ve gained the patience of a saint, you found the strength of a warrior. You fight. Battle. I come, unravelled.

Take a look around you, what is old? What is new? Down the road. Across the world. Nothing seems to be set in stone. What concerns you, concerns me. As Newton said under the tree: “what goes up, must come down”. And I can’t stand by and watch you destroy. And I can’t stand by and watch you destroy it all. How long has it been here? Built to last. But, we can do better, must do better because somebody once cared to build sculptures, raise the bridges and we still dream. We think we live and learn, but we’re not living, not learning. Since the beginning of time the human race has been the same; self-centred, short sighted, don’t think about the end game. We’re not living, not learning. Like a disease with no cure things will just get worse, it’s time for us to change. We’re not living, not learning. Here they come. They destroy our history, our artistry, security, everything.

They can’t take that away. For all that we see, our humanity is wasting away, sinking beneath us. And all that we do gets lost on you, our raging screams fall onto deaf ears. We cry out. It’s the little things in life that we do each and every day, they all make a big difference and they can’t take that away. Smile at someone, hold a door open, think of people and pray. They can’t take that away. This world is so cold, full of hatred, people reap what they sow and when judgements passed; they all deny. Empty hearts, fuelled by hate led by others who just dictate. Blinded by their own vision, they spread their misery. Acid rains down and washes over us. It doesn’t cleanse our skin, it burns away. For the same effort as a frown, we can smile, pick people up and not put them down. We have the power to unite the world. But it’s the little things in life that we do each and every day, they all make a big difference and they can’t take that away. Smile at someone, hold a door open, think of people and pray. They can’t take that away. This world is so warm, full of virtue, people reap what they sow and when judgements passed; they all reclaim. Full hearts, fuelled by love give to others who they class above. Guided by their own vision, they spread their joy to us. Kindness rains down and washes over us. It cleanses our sin and gives us hope. For the same effort as a frown, we can smile, pick people up and not put them down. We have the power to unite the world. Unite the world. Dirt and stone. Dark and dismal. No sign of life as the void reaches out to the blackened horizon. Silhouettes and shapes I’ve seen too many times before Like a haunted mirage that never ends. End of time displayed in remembrance When we’re gone who will remember? Our demise approaches with each tick of the clock. No bells to ring out your arrival. Dust and silence penetrate the air. The mist falls and brings and end to prayer and song. Words silenced by sombre thoughts from bowed heads. And I can see the irony in wanting more time. And I can see the irony of our own mortality. Name and date. Six feet under. All but decayed as we return to our maker. I close my eyes. I feel at peace. The pain and suffering leaves me to decease. This whole world’s a graveyard, it’s dead.
